Beth and Bryce had originally planned a large wedding at another venue, and when COVID hit they had to make new plans fast. They looked at pushing back their wedding another year, but even a pandemic couldn’t stop these kids. They moved the wedding to Beth’s father’s property, kept the guest list small, and threw an absolutely gorgeous COVID wedding.
One of the best parts of getting married at dad’s is that your pup can be there for the whole day. This sweet pooch Gus made appearances at every stage, and was the best wedding dog you could imagine.
Sometimes the process of getting ready in the morning can feel a little bit like a NASCAR pit stop: the bride rolls in and dozens of hands appear to make sure every detail is taken care of. Beth had the best pit crew, including a bridesmaid with more hair and makeup gear than I have seen in my life.
Bryce on the other hand didn’t have a huge crew helping him out, but he did have what I call “good face”. No matter what photos I took, he looked great. As far as I can tell the secret is not trying too hard, and Bryce had it down.
The first look took place in dad’s horse pasture, and it was a unique experience. This was my first time having horses as my clients and they were not excited about the fact that I was using a flash. Beth managed to calm them down with some carrots, and the only casualty was a bit of carrot juice on her dress. Tide sticks to the rescue and she was ceremony ready.
While we were heading towards the ceremony I caught sight of a nephew and his amazing mohawk. I couldn’t resist, and I have to say he looks like quite the little badass.
Of course no one managed to be as cute as Gus the dog, who spent the whole ceremony happily chilling in the grass.
After the ceremony Beth and Bryce shared their first dance. Here’s a secret: this photo was taken in a normal garage. Getting the right picture is all about choosing the right angle, so shooting from inside the garage to get the beautiful natural background was the right call.
Bryce definitely looks happier during the first dance than he does during this hug attack.
One of my favorite people at this wedding was the new brother-in-law to the groom, who felt that it was his solemn duty to make sure Bryce had a beer in his hand the whole night. Important work!
I was also introduced to a new wedding game for the very first time: roping groomsmen! It got pretty rowdy, but it was tons of fun.
One of my favorite things to do at weddings is to get a shot of everyone who’s there. You can see from this one that Beth and Bryce kept it small (thanks COVID), but that didn’t stop them from having a wonderful day.
Wrapping up my day was an experience I’ve never had before: Beth hopped up bareback on one of the horses and took it for a spin around the reception! This was a new one for me, but it made for some amazing photos.
